2018 Runs of the Month
January 2018 
 
The Run of the Month for January was Hukanui for trainer Tony Rasmussen for his performance at Angle Park on Thursday, 11th January in a Heat of the SA Sprint Championship.

Being sent out one of the favourites he sat up on the pace and exploded away from his rivals over the concluding stages to win by 4½ lengths in a sizzling 29.52, with splits of 4.45/16.92 and run home of 12.60.

Voting by the panel was tight and Hukanui just pipped Whitney Showgirl who ran an extraordinary race at Angle Park on Thursday, 25th January where she walked out and came from nowhere to score running splits of 4.88/17.68 and a run home of 12.58. Both were fantastic performances.   
 

 

 


 

February 2018 

The Run of the Month for February was Ashom Monelli for trainer Tony Rasmussen for his performance at Angle Park on Monday, 5th February in a mixed 4/5 600m event. 
 
After his John Gray Feature Final win he was stepped up to 600m for the first time in SA with much anticipation. He jumped well from box 2 to find the front early and from there he powered away from his rivals to win by 8 lengths in a flying 34.60. Splits were 8.85 and 21.50.
  

 

 


 


March 2018

The Run of the Month for March was Honcho Monelli for trainer Tony Rasmussen for his performance at Angle Park on Thursday, 15th March in a mixed Free For All event. 

He was slow out from box 8, however, quickly mustered speed leaving the front straight where he raced to the lead. From that point on there was no catching the flying machine as he raced away from his rivals to win by over 5 lengths in a blistering 29.42 with splits of 4.54 and 16.89. To be fair, he could have won the Run of the Month for a number of performances throughout the month including a 29.60 win against Grade 5 company where he ran 29.60 with an amazing run home of 12.43.

 

 


 

 
April 2018

The Run of the Month for April was Cairnlea Jet for trainer Petar Jovanovic for his performance at Angle Park on Thursday, 26th April in the Anniversary Cup final, just edging out Victa Louise’s performance for Robyn Mackellar when she ran a track record over the 388m at Angle Park on the 4th April. 
Cairnlea Jet was taking on the best sprinters in the State and ran a super race. From box 2 he was able to position just off the pace in second spot before exploding to the front down the back straight. From there he was powerful to the line running a super 29.45 for the 515m journey in winning by 2 lengths against a very strong field. His splits were 4.45, 16.82 with a run home of 12.63.

 

 


 

 

May 2018

The Run of the Month for May was Honcho Monelli for trainer Tony Rasmussen for his performance at Angle Park on Thursday, 24th May in an open event.

Honcho Monelli settled midfield before powering over the top of a strong line up to win running away over the 515m journey. He won by 3¼ lengths in a blistering 29.65 however his splits of 4.55, 17.10 with a run home of 12.55 were sensational.

 


 


June 2018

The Run of the Month for June was Zudactyl Monelli for trainer Tony Rasmussen for his performance at Angle Park on Thursday, 7th June in a Mixed 4/5 event over the 600m.

Zudactyl Monelli quickly ran to the front over the middle distance and from there was never headed. He blistered mid race and went down to the line a convincing winner by almost 10 lengths in a sizzling 34.61.

 

 


 

July 2018

In a first for the Run of the Month there were three equal winners of the monthly award voted by the panel for the month of July. 
 
Panhandle Slim for Ray Murray at Gawler 8th July over the 531m in the Gawler Produce Final where he ran 30.55 with splits of 3.19/15.79 and a run home 14.76 in winning by 9.25 lengths.

 
 
Spring Bridge for Greg Board at Angle Park on 12th July over the 515m in an Open event where he ran 29.46 with splits of  4.49/16.87 and a run home of 12.59 in winning by 2.5 lengths.

 

Rockoon for Tracie Price at Mt Gambier on 1st July over the 512m in an Open event he ran 29.28 in winning by 8.5 lengths which broke the previous track record by 2 lengths.

August 2018

The Run of the Month for August was the Tony Rasmussen trained Honcho Monelli for his brilliant performance at Angle Park on Thursday 2nd August.

He started a warm favourite in a heat of the National Sprint State series and he didn’t disappoint his fans. Beginning fairly from box 7 he raced midfield before making his customary move down the back straight where he swooped upon the leaders in a blink of an eye. He raced away in the run home to win by an ever increasing 8.75 lengths in a sizzling 29.42 for the 515m journey. His splits were 4.54 and 16.86 with a powerful run home of 12.56. 

 



September 2018

The Run of the Month for September was the Tony Rasmussen trained Nations for his fantastic performance at Angle Park on Thursday, 27th September in the State of Origin Match Race Series. 

He defeated the highly regarded Bernardo from Victoria by over 6 lengths in a sizzling 29.55. His splits were 4.48 and 16.98 with a flying run home of 12.57. He held on to win the overall Match Race series by .01 from Spring Bridge with another .01 to Honcho Monelli in third.

 




October 2018

The Run of the Month for October was the Greg Board trained Spring Bridge for his sensational performance at Strathalbyn on Tuesday 16th October in a heat of the Strathalbyn Cup. 

Starting a short priced favourite he began well from box 2 to surprisingly push through and lead on the first turn. From there it was just a matter of what kind of time the son of My Bro Fabio and Tina Lee ran. He blistered away from his rivals to win by almost 13 lengths running a sizzling 30.88 for the 536m journey which was only .17 outside of Right Time’s track record set in 2013.

Spring Bridge has recently been sent to the kennels of star trainer Seona Thompson in Victoria winning on debut last Thursday night at Sandown in a prelude of the rich Melbourne Cup series and we wish the connections every success.

 

 


 

November 2018

The Run of the Month for November was in a Maiden event by a greyhound having its first start in a race.

Sennachie for Kirin Corby created a massive impression on debut when the son of Fernando Bale and Rhonda Rocks blistered around the Angle Park loam in a sizzling 29.52 for the 515m journey on Monday 22nd November. He won by almost 19 lengths and recorded a time for a Maiden that very few Maidens have replicated over the years.



 

December 2018

The Run of the Month for December was Fabwik for trainer Kirin Corby who continued on her winning way taking out the Doug Payne SA Bred Feature final at Angle Park on Thursday, 6th December. 

She led her rivals a merry dance stopping the clock in a brilliant 29.51 for the 515m journey after she led throughout and won by over 5 lengths.
