2017 Runs of the Month


January 2017 

Run of the month for January was won by Bogie Bekim, for trainer Ben Rawlings, for his outstanding performance at Angle Park on the 12th January over 731m in a FFA event.

He was able to lead most of the way from box 2 running blistering sectionals including breaking the 3rd split track record. He ran splits of 4.23/15.90/29.10 and an overall of 42.97 in winning by 4½ lengths.

 

 



February 2017 

Run of the month for February was won by Cairnlea Ollie for trainer Petar Jovanovic for his scintillating performance at Angle Park on the 28th February. 

In the Grade 6 event he ran a brilliant 29.64, winning by 12 lengths and highlighting his abundance of potential.

 

 


 

March 2017

Run of the month for March was won by On Fire for trainer Cameron Butcher for his blistering performance at Angle Park on the 30th March where he flew home to win in Mixed 2/3/4 company. 

Beginning average, he raced midfield before making quick ground over the concluding stages to win by over 2 lengths. His performance was impressive with super sectional times. He ran a sizzling 29.62 with a slick run home time of 12.67.




 

April 2017

Run of the month for April was won by Striker Klinsman for trainer Tony Rasmussen for his sizzling performance at Angle Park on the 6th April in a Grade 5 event where he dominated his opposition. 

Starting from box 6 he quickly mustered to find the front and from there was never challenged. He blitzed his rivals by almost 12 lengths running a sizzling 29.50 for the 515m journey and showing he will be a big player in the local feature races later this year.

 

 



May 2017

Run of the month for May was won by On Fire for trainer Cameron Butcher for his brilliant performance at Angle Park on the 11th May in a Free For All event where he sizzled home to beat his rivals. 

Starting from box 8 he quickly mustered to race up near the lead before taking control down the back straight and opening up a big space between himself and his rivals. He won in a blistering 29.44 in winning by almost 8 lengths.

 



June 2017

The Run of the Month for June was again awarded to the Cameron Butcher trained On Fire who sizzled around the Angle Park loam on Thursday 29th June over the 515m recording a blistering 29.67 win in winning by 3 lengths after finding plenty of trouble in the small field. 

On Fire could have been selected from any of his winning performances in June. 





July 2017

The Run of the Month for July was again awarded to the Cameron Butcher trained On Fire but this time it wasn’t about the time that he ran but the amazing performance he put up to win. 

In a 5 dog field it seemed to be just a procession for the Cameron Butcher flyer on Thursday 6th July however after an okay beginning from box 1, the star chaser got shuffled back to last and then was checked. 
His $1.20 starting price all of a sudden looked like 20/1! Greyhounds seldom recover from that kind of early interference however he balanced up and began to make ground in a high quality field. Turning for home On Fire was powering home and swooped upon his rivals to go on and win by 1 length in a solid 30.01. The performance was definitely one not to be missed and not surprisingly was voted the best for July.





August 2017

The Run of the Month for August was again awarded to the Cameron Butcher trained On Fire for his performance at Angle Park on Thursday 3rd August in the State heats of the National Sprint Championship. 

Sent out a warm favourite he began well from box 2 to sit midfield early. He got into his work down the back straight but was still giving the leader, Cairnlea Kenny a handy head start however turning for home he knuckled down and claimed the win in the shadows of the post. He won by just under a length and seemed to do it easy however his time of 29.54 was blistering for the 515m journey.

  





September 2017

The Run of the Month for September was Cairnlea Kenny for trainer Petar Jovanovic for his performance at Angle Park on Thursday 14th September where he was brilliant in winning against FFA company. 

The son of Premier Fantasy and Cairnlea Ollie began well from box 1 to punch-through and lead early. From there he ran sensational time out in front with splits of 4.47, 16.76 and an overall of 29.47 in winning by over 9 lengths.





October 2017

The Run of the Month for October 2017 was Hukanui for his performance at Angle Park on Thursday 19th October where he sizzled home to score an impressive victory. 

In Open company the son of Kelsos Fusileer and Daddy’s Muffin began surprisingly well from box 2 to be up vying for the front early until he pushed through on the first turn to gain the early lead. From there it was all about times and margins as he strode away from his contenders to win by more than 8 lengths in a blistering 29.53 for the 515m journey.





November 2017

The Run of the Month for November was Hukanui for trainer Tony Rasmussen for his performance at Angle Park on Thursday 2nd November making it back to back awards for the son of Kelsos Fusileer and Daddy’s Muffin. 

Hukanui began well from box 3 to take up a forward position behind leader Slipper’s Time. He raced in that position for most of the event before sizzling home his last section to win running away from his rivals in a blistering 29.67 to win by almost 5 lengths.

 




December 2017

The Run of the Month for December was Zinfandel Zara for trainer Gavin Harris for her performance at Angle Park on Thursday, 7th December in the Doug Payne SA Bred Feature.

At only her fifth lifetime start she took on some of the best open company chasers in the State and gave them a beating. She ran a blistering 29.66 in winning by over 6 lengths and declared herself as a star of the future.
