2016 Runs of the Month

January 2016

Run of the month for January was won by Mrs Bubbles for trainer Matthew Payne for her outstanding performance at Angle Park on the 21st January where she won in a flying 29.43 for the 515m journey after leading for most of trip, with the winning margin over 6 lengths.
 

 

 

 


 

February 2016

 

​Run of the month for February was won by Worm Burner for trainer Cameron Butcher for his terrific performance at Angle Park on the 18th February where he won the SA St Leger Final in a brilliant 29.57 after coming from midfield early and powering home to win by 3 lengths. 

  

 

 

 


 

March 2016

​Run of the month for March was won by Coorong Kid for trainer Cameron Butcher for his blistering performance at Angle Park on the 10th March where he flew home to win in FFA company.

Beginning slowly he raced midfield before making quick ground to get to third turning for home with a win unlikely however he sprouted wings over the concluding stages to win by over 1 length. His performance looked impressive however his sectional times were outstanding. 

He ran a sizzling 29.66 with an amazing run home time of 12.52.

  

 

 


 

April 2016

Run of the month for April was won by Hukanui for trainer Tony Rasmussen for his sizzling performance at Angle Park on the 7th April in the final of the Grade 6 feature where he came from a mile back to win in slick time.  Beginning slowly he was back last early before making ground on the rails out of the front straight and then coming to the outside down the back straight.

With the leaders running quick time out in front his chances looked slim however he really motored mid race to claim the front runners in the final straight to race away for a strong 2 length win.

The overall time was brilliant running a flying 29.58 for the 515m journey but Hukanui’s last split of 12.49 was simply outstanding. 

 

 

 


 

May 2016

It was back to back awards for the Tony Rasmussen trained Hukanui who was awarded the Run of the Month for his brilliant performance at Angle Park on the 18th May in a heat of the Group 3 Howard Ashton.

After an average beginning and checked passage he got motoring mid race to chase down the leaders in a flying 29.43 for the 515m journey. He won by almost 2 lengths with a sizzling run home time of 12.50 stamping his class on the opposition.

 

 

 

 


June 2016 

The Run of the Month for June was the Cameron Butcher trained Worm Burner who sizzled around the Angle Park loam on Monday 6th June over the 515m where he recorded a blistering 29.48 win in winning by 6 lengths after racing up on the pace. 

Worm Burner could have won for 3 other performances in the month as he recorded sub 29.60 wins at headquarters all in brilliant fashion.

 

 


 

July 2016

The Run of the Month for July was the Cameron Butcher trained Worm Burner who won the award again after he was devastating in winning at Angle Park on Thursday 7th July over the 515m. 

He was in a no win position off the back straight, wide on the track, worse than midfield with the leaders running time, however, he produced a paralysing burst over the final stages to win in a solid 29.92. He ran home in 12.67 wide on the track in a performance that had to be seen to be believed.

 


 

 

August 2016

The Run of the Month for August was the Cameron Butcher trained Worm Burner who won the award again for the third month in a row after his brilliant win at Angle Park on Saturday 27th August over the 515m in the Group 1 UBET National Sprint Championship Final. 

He ran a blistering 29.17 in winning by almost 6 lengths. His time ranked him equal 5th overall with Betty’s Angel who recorded the same time 10 years ago. 

  

 

 

 


 

September 2016

The Run of the Month for September was again the Cameron Butcher trained Worm Burner who won the award for an amazing 4 months in a row after his flying performance at Angle Park on Thursday 1st September over the 515m. 

He was able to lead again in Free For All company and blow his rivals away with speed and stamina. He ran a blistering 29.25 in winning by over 6 lengths with splits of 4.39 and 16.74.

  

 


 

October 2016

In considering the Run of the Month for October it seemed that Worm Burner had a mortgage on the award with three of his performances strongly considered however it was his performance at Angle Park on Thursday 13th that caught the judge’s eye. 

The Cameron Butcher trained star had drawn box 1 and was sent out a red hot favourite over the 515m journey. He was able to push through and lead on the first turn and from there it was just times and margins. He went on to win by 10 lengths in FFA company running a blistering 29.35 with splits of 4.47 and 16.83.

 

 


 

November 2016

In a tight month of voting the Run of the Month for November was the Ben Rawlings trained Bogie Bekim for his brilliant performance at Angle Park on Monday 21st November over the 600m in a Mixed 4/5 event.

He began fairly from box 8 before pushing forward early and racing to the front, from there on he was never headed, winning by 10 lengths and running sizzling split times of 9.09, 21.66 and an overall of 34.75.



 

December 2016

The Run of the Month for December was On Fire for trainer Cameron Butcher after his sizzling win in the Group 3 Brian Johnstone Final at Angle Park on Thursday 1st December. 

On Fire began nicely from box 3 to pounce on the early lead. From there he was never headed going on to record a brilliant win in 29.52 and winning by almost 10 lengths.
